MICHAEL JACKSON -
REST IN PEACE
1958-2009
Jackson made his musical debut at a very tender age, as a child; on national television and quickly stole the spotlight from his older brothers as part of The Jackson Five, who had hit singles with ABC and I Want You Back.
Jackson, a singing, dancing prodigy, would go on to become the biggest-selling solo artist of all time. His second solo album, Off The Wall, released in 1979, showed Jackson maturing as an artist. In 1982 he released Thriller, which would become the best-selling album of all time, and go on to sell over 45 million copies worldwide.
Thriller was produced by Quincy Jones. It spent 37 weeks at Number One in the U.S., generated seven Top 10 singles, and received 12 Grammy nominations, for which he won a historic eight.
Michael Jackson has sold over 750,000,000 records to his name, including the ''Thriller'' album which is listed in the Guiness Book of Records as the biggest selling record of all times - having sold over 104,000,000 records so far. Michael Jackson has also donated over 300,000,000 dollars to charity in his lifetime. He is listed in the Guiness Book Of Records for the ''Most Charities Supported By A Superstar''. Michael Jackson has won 13 Grammies in his impressive career, including 8 Grammies for the Thriller album won in February 28,1984 at the Shrine Auditorium. In 1990, Michael Jackson was honored with the "Entertainer of the Decade" award by the White House in recognition of his musical influence on humanitarian causes. The only superstar to be honored with a red carpet by world leaders and statesmen all over the world, Michael Jackson transcended cultural differences and broke down political barriers with his music. One month before his demise, he broke another record for the fastest selling concert tickets in history. There are many other list of awards won by Michael Jackson.
Again, there is no one in the music/entertainment buiness who has contributed as much as Michael Jackson did, all around the world and for many important causes. I doubt there ever will be anyone who can do what this amazing man did; he did so very much for so many. Michael, obviously didn't have a selfish bone in his body. (He was one of a kind, truly).
Throughout the '80s, Jackson was at the height of his career, winning awards, breaking world sales records, and setting trends — from the one-hand sequenced glove to the moon walk, Jackson was untouchable.
Jackson emerged as a pioneer of music videos in MTV's infancy. His videos were high budget and often told stories. The video for Thriller was the first of its kind. Michael will never be forgotten, his music, legacy and love for his works of excellence will continue to touch the hearts of many forever, around the World.
Michael was not only a Mega-Super Star; Michael broke barriers in the world of music and entertainment, TV; (HE WAS THE FIRST BLACK ARTIST EVER ON MTV). Michael is "THE" real reason Blacks, Hispanics, and other nationalities who have excelled to date, and can now comfortably perform, appear on MTV and other Music Entertainment TV Shows. Let us remember everyone, it was Michael Jackson who opened the doors for many when MTV would not allow minorities and various other genres to perform. Thank you Mr. Michael Jackson!
Michael was the ultimate, whose heart was filled with love. He was not only a Mega-Star, he was a Father, our Brother and our Son, a Philanthropist and Humanitarian. Michael touched all genres of music, artists, from, Pop, Soul, R&B, classical and he was loved and respected by Presidents, Ministers, Prime Ministers, Political Leaders from around the world. Yes, Michael's music is also respected and loved by many JAZZ GREATS from around the entire world! Michael will certainly be missed, "he was the most famous entertainer ever"; it is written. He was a full-packaged deal because of his singing, song-writing, style of dance, music, showman-ship, and generosity. Michael changed the world in many ways with his phenomenal moves and his works of excellence.
I had the honor to ride on the same elevator with Michael Jackson at the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame Inductions Awards,1997 in Cleveland, Ohio. I also met his family that night. It was a true honor for me and a moment I will never forget! Like many other loving fans, Michael's miraculous and outstanding musical talents were enjoyed and danced to by FOUR (4) generations in my 'own' family; my mother, father, me, my children and even my grandchildren. Please let us never forget his gentle, unselfish and kind heart; always thinking of others. Michael's kind deeds and yes, they are voluminous, although some of the many many wonderful things he did for the poor, children, patients, animals and even the world has not yet been mentioned. Michael always gave back from his many performances like no other. He will always be remembered as a man with a heart as big as the 'World'. I often wonder will any of us live long enough to ever witness another kind, thoughtful, unselfish and super-talent in this lifetime, such as Michael Jackson. He was one of a kind. God Bless his gentle spirit and kind soul.
May God allow him the peace and rest he so deserves. We love you Michael. There will never be another like you, ever! "GONE TOO SOON", indeed.
